Late Summer Preview

It’s August, and last time I really felt like life wasn’t made of pure chaos it was April.  I was absent from this space for much of July, but now I’ve caught my breath and I’m ready to dive back in.  To start out, I thought I’d give you a glimpse into what you can expect coming up.

First of all, the wedding was fantastic, and I have so much to share with you!  For the foreseeable future, we’re going to have Wedding Wednesdays.  I have some tutorials for things my husband and I made, and even one from the bride and groom. I also want to show you some amazing stuff, like the ring bearer box my son spent months crafting.  Don’t worry, I’ll try to slip some non-wedding projects in between those Wednesdays.

Here’s a sneak peek from their fantastic photographer, Heather Fitch.

Codi and John

I have a couple of sewing books I’ll be reviewing soon.  Super Stitches Sewing by Nicole Vasbinder and Basic Black by Sato Watanabe have been patiently sitting next to my computer.

I also have some exciting news to share with West Coast vacationers from my friends at Undercover Tourist.  Especially timely, since I’ll be among you next month!  You can expect a new Disney craft to add to my collection soon.

All of my customizable items have been returned to my Etsy shop, including the pencil coffee sleeve that can have your favorite teacher’s name hand-embroidered on it.

So, there’s a bit of what you can look forward to in the coming months.  I hope you’ll join me!

Spring Crafty Wonderland

The bi-annual Crafty Wonderland craft sale has already come and gone here in Portland, but it seems like a shame to visit a craft show without sharing it with all of you.  Also, thanks to this new thing called the internet, all of these creative retailers are available 24/7, year-round.

Spring Crafty Wonderland - Crafty Staci 1

This was my daughter’s first visit to Crafty Wonderland, so she walked around with her jaw hanging open a bit.  She’s knee-deep in wedding plans, so the promise of a Wedding Wonderland Section drew her in.  I’ll admit, we were a bit disappointed because we didn’t really see anything that was specifically a wedding item, but rather things that could be used in some capacity surrounding a wedding, like gifts.  But she enjoyed it anyway, finding a couple of things she couldn’t leave without, like this raw honey from Mickelberry Gardens.

Spring Crafty Wonderland - Crafty Staci 2

One of the first things I couldn’t walk away from was this mini felting kit from Yarnarchy.  I’ve wanted to try felting for years now, and this tiny kit seemed like a pretty manageable place to start.

Spring Crafty Wonderland - Crafty Staci 3

I also found this cute wood sewing machine ornament.  I wish I could tell you the name of the vendor, but I don’t have the slightest idea.  My advice to those of you participating in craft sales:  make sure your business info is included with any item you sell.

Spring Crafty Wonderland - Crafty Staci 4

I tend to grab cards from vendors if I think I might want to order something from them later.  Travelust had pretty map necklaces that can be customized with any map.  I’m thinking a Boring, Oregon necklace would be fun.

Spring Crafty Wonderland - Crafty Staci 5

Bread and Badger sells sandblasted coffee cups, one of which has Bigfoot on it and might end up in my son’s Christmas stocking.

Spring Crafty Wonderland - Crafty Staci 6

Illustrated Playing Cards sells, you guessed it, illustrated playing cards.  Each card has a different drawing on it, with the entire deck themed around a city.  I think these would make a great local gift for an out-of-towner.

Spring Crafty Wonderland - Crafty Staci 7

This is the second time I’ve made a purchase from Hedgehog Toffee.  It’s the perfect texture, light and crisp.  That generous sample they hand me always pulls me in.  I’d show you a picture of it, but it barely made it to our house.

Spring Crafty Wonderland - Crafty Staci 8

I try to not completely empty my wallet at this thing, but since the show was the day before my birthday, I decided I’d find myself a necklace.  My daughter and I checked out every one there, before going back to Oliotto and buying this one.

Spring Crafty Wonderland - Crafty Staci 9

I’ve worn it three times and have received several compliments every time.  And I haven’t even worn it with the reverse, stainless steel side out yet.

Spring Crafty Wonderland - Crafty Staci 10

I enjoy this sale every time I go and love finding new artists and revisiting those I’ve seen before.  My daughter and I have already made plans to attend the winter sale.  Hopefully, one day you’ll find me on the other side of one of those vendor tables!

Spring Etsy Sale

I’m having a big Spring Sale in my Etsy shop!  I decided to take a hard look at what was I had on hand and be brutal about making room for some new things.  Kill your darlings, so they say.  I’m not going to pretend to understand why some of these cute items are still here while others are gone, but it’s time to move on.

Everything below is currently 50% off the original price.  But wait, there’s more – through this Friday, April 18, 2014, use the code SPRINGSHIPPING for free shipping on any order within the United States!  For my international customers, use the code SPRINGWORLD for a $4 discount on shipping.

Anything here would make great a Mother’s Day gift!

Feather Your Nest

I live in a great area.  West of us is a town called Gresham, where I can usually find just about anything I need.  The one thing it was lacking was an independent quilt and fabric shop.  There are places to buy fabric, but there’s just something about those cute shops that is special.  My daughter informed me last week that the void has been filled.

Feather Your Nest opened last fall, but somehow I missed it.  Codi found it because it’s across the street from the cupcake shop that’s making the cupcakes for the wedding and has gluten-free options on Wednesdays.  She’s a regular.

They’re located on Main Avenue.  The building has great tall ceilings and lots of windows.  It’s a very creatively inspiring space.  I promise you I looked at every single bolt of fabric they had before deciding on these three.

They don’t go together, but individually I love each one.  The top one is a print from Sweetwater made up of street addresses.  I’ve been wanting to get a piece of it because MY address is there too!  My husband actually found it, so I’ve got to find a project where it will show.

I’ve been noticing nautical stuff everywhere, which I’ve always liked anyway, so I had to have the anchor print.  In person, it’s a really pretty shade of blue.  The bottom is because words.  Words are always fun.

Why am I telling you about a fabric shop that you aren’t likely to visit unless you happen to be in my area?  Because they also have an Etsy shop, and it seems to have most of the same prints I found in their shop, including the three above.  You can find them as FeatheredNest97030.  I spoke to the mother and daughter owners when I was there and they couldn’t have been nicer.

Here’s a few of their prints that are on my wish list:

After I left Feather Your Nest, I also visited the cupcake shop, a local candy store and a doughnut shop for gifts for my family for Valentine’s day.  Have you found any hidden gems where you live?  If you can’t find any where you are, come visit us in Gresham!

Can I Get Your Opinion?

I’m popping in today with a quick favor to ask.  A large camera manufacturing company in Japan has requested a sample of one of my wrist camera straps.  I’ve done my homework and it’s legit.  I’m down to two, but can’t decide which one to send.  What do you think?

Edit 1/29/14:  Thank you so much for your votes!  It looks like the black and white strap is the winner and will be shipped off to Japan tomorrow, but it was very close.  I’m so glad I asked all of you – it was really fun to watch the tally!  I also really appreciate all the concern and advice.  You guys are awesome!

I need to send it tomorrow, so time is short.  Thank you all so, so much for your help! :-)

What’s Coming in 2014

Happy New Year!  After I’ve hung the new calendars, I always spend New Year’s Day taking down the tree and putting away the Christmas ornaments.  Yes, I intentionally leave them up that long.  I mentioned putting them away early this year a few days ago and my husband looked at me like he didn’t know who I was.  I guess that’s a tradition that’s pretty deeply rooted around here.

So, what can you expect here at Crafty Staci in the coming year?  For one, I’ll be continuing my Friday Favorites series, which has featured over 1500 projects already.  The round-ups are becoming popular on Pinterest, with my Gifts for Guys post being my most-repinned item in 2013.  If there’s a topic you’d like to see covered, just let me know!

Friday Favorites

February will mark the fourth (!!!) anniversary of my blog.  I haven’t decided what it will be yet, but as always, there’s going to be a giveaway.  I’m torn between an item handmade by me or supplies so the winner can make something herself.  Any opinions on that one?

Birthday Cake

This is going to be a big year for my family as well.  My son will be graduating from high school in June.  My baby.  Just…stunned.

And my daughter will be tying the knot with her fearless firefighter in late July.  The wedding is going to be at our home but even though we’re going to be up to our eyeballs in DIY, you probably won’t see many wedding-related crafts until after July.  I don’t want to give everything away before it happens!

I’ll probably be taking a month or so off from this blog and my shops when we get close to the event.  Don’t worry, I’ll come back after I rest a little.  Then I’ll leave again for a week in September for a family trip to Disneyland.  After that, I’m all yours.

Speaking of my shops, I’ll still be working hard at Etsy and Zibbet this year.  I’m hoping to make a personal appearance or two at crafts shows next fall and winter as a vendor.

I’m looking forward to this year for so many reasons, not the least of which is the time I get to spend here with you.  Thank you for coming on this crazy trip with me!

Last Day of Holiday Sale 2013

I’m wrapping up the final day of my sale in both my Etsy and Zibbet shops today, so if you have gifts left to buy, now’s the time!

Black Friday Weekend Sale 2013

Before I get into the sale portion of this, I’d like to wish you all a happy, healthy and safe Thanksgiving.  I hope you’re able to spend some time with loved ones, enjoy some great food and reflect on what you’re thankful for in your life.  One of the things I’m grateful for is the fact that all of you choose to spend some of your time here with me.  Thank you!

Once the dinner has been put away and demoted to leftovers and the annual viewing of whatever movie your family is into is over, some of you are probably going to move to the shopping portion of the weekend.  I’m not going to brave the crowds out in the real world this year, but I do intend to do some browsing online.  If your plan is similar to mine, I have some deals in my own shops to pass along to you.  Be sure to read all the way to the bottom for a special additional discount code, just for my newsletter and blog readers!

Etsy:

All of my ready-to-ship Etsy items will be marked down 15% except the Christmas section, which will be 25% off.

I’ll be available all weekend so if you have any questions, feel free to email me at craftystaci (at) gmail (dot) com or through either shop directly.  Happy shopping!

New at Zibbet

When Etsy recently announced they were going to start allowing factory made items, I panicked a little right along with most other sellers.  After I calmed down a bit and came back to the Land of the Rational, I realized it was best to give it some time and see what happened.  So I plan to hang in there on Etsy, work hard and hope for the best.  However, in this whole process, I learned about another marketplace and decided I’d try it out too.  It’s called Zibbet, and so far I like what I see.

I started out by moving my Ninja Monkey Bags there.  After that, I added a few coffee cup sleeves.  It’s starting out slow, but I like having somewhere I can branch out from the photography accessories I’ve been making for the last couple of years.

Yesterday, I added something new.  I’ve partnered with my talented husband to make Mason Drinking Jars!  They’re so cute.  If you’re a fan of those little canning jars like I am, add these to your Christmas list.

Crafty Staci Drinking Mason Jar blue pint

They come in blue and clear, pint and 20 ounce and singles or sets.

Crafty Staci Drinking Mason Jar set of 4 clear pints

Next week we’ll be adding handmade stainless steel straws.  After that, we’re planning mason jar soap dispensers, leather mason jar lid coasters and mason jar cozies.  But right now, this is my very favorite thing to drink from.  There’s nothing like a metal straw to keep your drink cold.

Crafty Staci Drinking Mason Jar 20 oz

These will be included in my sale on Black Friday weekend, so pick out your favorites now and sign up for my newsletter so you won’t miss out on that extra discount code!

Crafty Staci Newsletter

Just in case you haven’t gotten enough of me yet, I’m about to launch a newsletter.  I have a lot to say, and apparently it can’t be contained in a blog, various social media outlets, two shops and the ear of a husband you’re probably feeling a tiny bit sorry for right now.

The newsletter will focus on my Etsy and Zibbet shops.  I’ll use it to announce new products, fabrics or variations on existing products.  But the most exciting thing you’ll find in my new newsletter is SALES!  Click the big box below and it will take you right to the sign-up page.

Newsletter sign up

I’ll be publishing via email, fewer than six times per year (probably 3 –4), usually in advance of a sale or holiday.  Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and I will be having a Black Friday weekend sale, so my first edition will be out that week.  All of my in-stock products will be on sale, but subscribers of my newsletter and blog readers will receive an extra coupon code, totaling the largest holiday discount I’ve ever offered.  If you’re interested in following what’s happening in my shops (did I mention the SALES?), just sign up and watch your inbox!
