5th Anniversary Giveaway–DIY Set

Here we are, at the last of the three big giveaways celebrating my 5th anniversary here at Crafty Staci.  If you missed the first two, you still have time to enter.  Visit the Uncommon Goods Giveaway and the Kitchen Set Giveaway and get your entry in by Sunday evening.

Crafty Staci 5th Anniversary Celebration

I’d like to thank Tuttle Publishing for the fun book included in today’s giveaway package!

My goal for this blog is to encourage readers to make and/or enjoy handmade things.  It’s always fun for me to show you things I’ve made, but I’d love for you to create as well.  That’s where this week’s giveaway set comes in.

Crafty Staci's 5th Anniversary DIY Set Giveaway

Those are not six fat quarters, they are half-yard cuts, so that’s THREE YARDS of fabric!  I love the floral print, and I was so in love with that red wood grain I ended up buying a bit of it for myself.  Shhh.

Crafty Staci's 5th Anniversary Giveaway fabrics

You can’t sew anything without thread, so I’ve included four spools of coordinating Gutermann thread.  It’s my sewing machines’ favorite.  I also threw in a couple of packages of buttons, just in case you need them for whatever fabulous thing (or things) you create from the fabric.

Crafty Staci's 5th Anniversary Giveaway thread and buttons

Even if you aren’t big on sewing, with this Wrapping with Fabric Book from Tuttle Publishing you can make some amazing things by simply hemming the fabric edges.  In fact, I’m pretty sure some of the wraps could be accomplished without even doing that.

Crafty Staci's 5th Anniversary Giveaway Wrapping with Fabric book

I don’t know about you, but my sewing and crafting would not be possible without keeping a list of what I need to do.  I also have a list of what I need to buy next time I’m in a fabric store.  I’ve included this craft room checklist in case you also enjoy the feeling of deep satisfaction in checking off those little boxes.

Crafty Staci's 5th Anniversary Giveaway checklist

Last, but not least, I couldn’t let this set go without sewing something.  I’ve been wanting to come up with a pincushion for years now, but I didn’t want to do something that someone else already had out there.  I think I’ve finally made something unique, and I love it so, so much.  Come back on Wednesday, and I’ll show you how to make one yourself!

Good luck everybody!

5th Anniversary Giveaway–Uncommon Goods

As I promised, today is the first of three giveaways happening this month as part of my blog anniversary bash!

Crafty Staci 5th Anniversary Celebration

For this giveaway, I’m partnering with Uncommon Goods.  You may remember them from the amazing glasses they sent me last summer, or their numerous appearances on my annual birthday wish list and in my Friday Favorites.  Browsing their website reminds me of when I was a kid and my sisters and I used to sit and look through catalogs, easily finding something we wanted from each page.  I can tell you from my experience with them, the quality and customer service lives up to their I’ll-take-one-of-everything selection.

Now, about that giveaway.  Uncommon Goods has generously offered to send one reader a gift certificate for $50 to use at their online shop!

5th Anniversary Giveaway - Uncommon Goods

This giveaway is open to U.S. residents only.  Here’s how to enter:

1st entry:  Leave a comment here telling me which product from Uncommon Goods you might use the gift certificate for.

2nd entry:  Follow Uncommon Goods on Twitter or subscribe to their email, leaving a second comment here telling me you’ve done so.

This giveaway opens on February 16, 2015 and will remain open for entries until midnight Pacific time on March 8, 2015. I will email the randomly selected winner on March 9th. If I don’t receive a response by midnight on March 15th I will randomly select a new winner.

Good luck!

Crafty Staci’s 5th Anniversary

Crafty Staci 5th Anniversary Celebration

Five years ago, on February 13, 2010, I sat down and wrote this:

I believe that everyone has the ability to be artistic or crafty. I’ve had many friends over the years argue that it isn’t true, that they have no talent. I’m not talking about talent. I’m talking about the simple ability to create something that wasn’t there before. Preferably, something that makes you happy to use, eat or just look at. Or something you can give someone else that they won’t throw away. At least not immediately.

Personally, I think the key is simplicity. Work at your comfort level. If it’s absolutely imperative to you that everything always turn out right, stick with what you know or at least what you know you can figure out. If you’re ok with the occasional failure or not-so-perfect outcome, branch out. I live in what I know and take vacations in new things.

I’d like to share some of the things that have worked for me in the crafty, home-operating, trying to keep the world spinning in one direction arena. Hopefully, you’ll either be inspired by them or learn from my mistakes. Someone should.

I left out a paragraph and corrected a couple of spelling errors, and some of it makes me cringe a little now (you can read the whole thing here), but I stand by what I said.  One of my favorite sayings is this Swedish proverb:

Those who wish to sing always find a song

What that means to me is if there’s something you want to do, you can find a way to do it.  If that thing was in the crafty realm, my goal was to help you achieve it.  I have a deep love for the creative spark and I felt like I had something to contribute to those looking to nurture their own.  Five years ago, my thoughts were on teaching.  As it turned out, I’ve learned more than I’ve taught.  It’s been more ups than downs and I wouldn’t change any of it.  And I have all of you to thank for that.

To show my profound appreciation, I’ve organized the biggest anniversary celebration I’ve ever had, which is going to last a whole month.  I’ve partnered with some of my favorite crafty companies to offer not one, but THREE different giveaway packages!

Crafty Staci 5th Anniversary Giveaway Partners

A different giveaway will open up each Monday for the next three weeks, beginning on the 16th with Uncommon Goods.  I’ll wait until Monday to reveal what it is, but you’ll definitely want to come back to enter to win.  The following week, both Craft Warehouse and Tuttle Publishing generously contributed to the giveaway package, and Tuttle Publishing returns for the final package.  Sprinkled throughout will also be a few items handmade by me.

I also have some new sewing projects to share.  Remember my Coffee Cup Sleeve of the Month series?  I’ll be starting a new series this month, and I promise it has nothing to do with coffee cozies.  I’m very excited about it!  Here’s a sneak peek:

Teacup Hot Pad Preview - Crafty Staci

So, those are some of the things you can look forward to during the coming month –

I hope it will be as fun for you as planning it has been for me!

And the Winner of the 4th Anniversary Giveaway is…

First I’ve got to tell you, choosing a winner was quite a project.  When I laid out the rules for this giveaway I offered you a second entry to telling me where you follow me outside of the blog.  What I failed to mention was to leave a second comment letting me know that.  Entirely my fault.  That meant choosing by random number was out.  Instead, I printed out every single one of your comments, printing those twice that mentioned following me.  Folding that many was out of the question, so they got wadded up instead.  Fancy, right?

For reference, that bowl measures 17” across and 5 1/2” tall.  My printer is still smoking.  I tossed that baby like a salad, then had my son reach in with one of his giant paws.  Trust me, he didn’t take this lightly – he really dug around in there.  He emerged with this one:

Congratulations to Maggie for winning this set!

If you’ve been around for any of my other giveaways, you know how much I hate choosing only one winner.  So, I tossed the bowl again and my willing volunteer pulled out a second winner:

Crafty Staci 4th Anniversary 2nd Prize 1

I’ve already been in touch with Patti and her set will be on its way tomorrow!

Crafty Staci 4th Anniversary Giveaway 2nd Prize 2

Thanks so much to everyone who entered.  I loved reading your sweet comments.  Some day when I win the lottery I will give all of you prizes.  Step one, start playing the lottery.  I’ll let you know how that goes.

4th Annual Crafty Staci Anniversary Giveaway

Four years ago today, I sat down at this computer (well, not THIS exact computer, but stay with me here) to start writing this blog.  I didn’t really know what I was doing.  At. All.  That first month, I stumbled through some sketchy posts, trying to get my bearings and figure out what I was doing.  A total of 42 people read what I wrote that month, and I think I probably didn’t even know some of them in real life.

It’s been an amazing ride so far.  I had my first print magazine project published last year and I’ve had the opportunity to appear on some other blogs I admire.  My Etsy shop is thriving, and I’ve branched out to Zibbet and Meylah.  I’ve been the recipient of some amazing opportunities, and I couldn’t be more grateful.  But what I’m most thankful for is you.

Without all of you out there reading this, I’d be talking to myself.  Which I would do, but I’m glad I don’t have to.  All of your comments, likes, links and silent passing through are what keeps this interesting.  To show my thanks, let’s get to this year’s anniversary giveaway!

4th Anniversary Giveaway - Crafty Staci 1

Remember my project for Craft Warehouse last month?  They sent my this springy fabric and when I was finished with it I thought it would make a perfect anniversary giveaway!  The pictures don’t really do it justice.  You’d think after four years I’d be a better photographer, but I’m still working on it.  In addition to the One Yard Wonder Retro Bag…

…you’ll also receive this One Yard Wonder Smart Girl’s Set Phone Case…

4th Anniversary Giveaway - Crafty Staci 3

…a One Yard Wonder Jet Set Travel Tissue Pack…

4th Anniversary Giveaway - Crafty Staci 4

…a zippered, lined cosmetic bag (which I’ll show you how to make on Wednesday!)…

…and a reversible coffee cup sleeve.  Surprised?

How to Enter

To enter to win this entire set, just leave a comment here.  Whatever you’d like to talk about.  I’ll give you a second entry if you leave a comment here letting my know where you follow me outside of my blog (Facebook, Pinterest, Etsy, Instagram, Twitter, Bloglovin’).

This drawing is open to anyone, worldwide, except my daughter who REALLY wants this bag.  Maximum of two entries per person.  The contest will be open until midnight Pacific time on Saturday, February 15, 2014.  I will choose a winner by random drawing on the 16th.  Please make sure your email address is linked to your name when you comment, or include it within your comment.  If I don’t hear back from the winner by February 23rd, I will choose a new winner.

I can’t wait to find out who I’ll be sending this to!

Holiday Crafts Magazine Winner

First of all, I want to thank all of you for your sweet comments.  I loved hearing about some of your projects and the kind words and congratulations made my week!

In answer to a few of you, I’m actually a little bit of an introvert in real life.  Even so, there were almost a few strangers who were stopped by a magazine to the face.  And I too thought “At least I can tell the cashier!” but he turned out to be a barely twenty-something guy who would have just looked at me like I was crazy.  The excitement from the people I know, both online and off, was enough to make up for it though!

Holiday Crafts Magazine - Crafty Staci 1

If you’re still looking for a copy, I found them at Fred Meyer here, which is owned by the Kroger chain.  I haven’t spotted it anywhere else yet, but believe me, I’m on the lookout.

On to the part you’re waiting for.  I went old-school and printed out all the names, threw them in a bowl and drew one out by hand.  It was the best method I could think of to not end up drawing my sweet husband’s name.  And the winner is…

Holiday Crafts Magazine Winner

Fran!  Look for an email from me in your inbox.  Thank you to everyone who played along!

Giveaway Day 2013

Congratulations to the winner, Katie Avalos, who left this comment:

“Every time I am looking at your projects online, my daughter asks “Are you going to make that for me?” Thanks for the great giveaway. I love the fabrics and buttons.”

I hope she makes something cute for her daughter!

3rd Anniversary Winner’s Bag

I thought you might like to see what Vanessa B., the winner drawn in my 3rd anniversary giveaway, received.  This was her comment when she entered:

I Love the Sling Bag and my fav fabric is is 131 Grey Hometowns, luvvv that fabric :-) Thank You and Happy Anniversary on your Blog!

I only had a very small piece left of the fabric she mentioned, so after finding out that she likes purple, green and brown, I found some cute options and made this:

3rd Anniversary Winner - Crafty Staci 1

I love how the flower turned out with the stripes!

3rd Anniversary Winner - Crafty Staci 2

Since I already had the fabric out on my table, and they’re one of my favorite things to make, I decided she needed a bonus matching coffee cup sleeve.

3rd Anniversary Winner - Crafty Staci 3

I shipped it off to Vanessa, and this is her response:

OMGoodness Staci, I LOVE It!!! Absolutely Beautiful Bag and how did you know, I’m a coffee fanatic that struggled (hard!) to pick between the bag and the coffee sleeve when I was leaving the original comment for your Giveaway :-) I can’t Thank You enough….Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!

Vanessa also shared with me that her daughter already tried to swipe it! Smile

My thanks to Vanessa and everyone else who entered.  I’m already looking forward to doing it again next year!
