I’ve been sucked in by an As Seen On T.V. product. I don’t even know what it’s called, but it makes these wavy-edged, perfect tortilla bowls. At home! In your oven! But wait, there’s more!
Now, while I’m definitely interested, I don’t want to have to actually buy it. It feels like one of those things that will spend a lot of time taking up storage space for those few times I actually want to use it. Instead, I came up with a DIY solution.
Heat the oven to 350 degrees. Place a small oven-safe bowl face down on a baking sheet. Lay the tortilla on top. The bowl should be tall enough that the tortilla doesn’t touch the pan. Carefully, so the tortilla doesn’t tear, place a larger oven-safe bowl on top. Put the whole thing into the oven and bake for 10 minutes.
Carefully remove the top bowl, leaving the tortilla draped over the bottom bowl. Watch out for steam trapped between when you lift the bowl.
Bake another 5 minutes. At this point, I called it good and took it out of the oven, mainly because I was starving. However, since the bowl has it’s shape at this point, you could remove the second bowl and bake it another 5 minutes to crisp it up even more.
It might not have the pretty waves like the one on television, but it tasted just as good with my taco salad inside. Win!
So cool! I love neat ideas like this where I can use what I already have instead of paying more money for more clutter
Thanks! I have a cheapo snowcone machine stored somewhere that agrees!
