This is the little bat from the Trick or Treat Bag I made last Thursday. He’s one of those things that’s really cuter in person, but I think you’ll get the idea.
My computer is going through some sort of rebellion that’s keeping my scanner from working, so here is a photo of the pattern. It’s the best I can do at the moment. If you measure it in the center from top to bottom, it’s about 4 1/2″.
Cut out two bat-shapes from the pattern. I used thin, black costume vinyl because apparently I’m punishing myself for something. Really slippery, except when you’re trying to sew a curve, then it sticks like glue. I love how shiny it is though.
Stitch the two pieces, right sides together, leaving an opening at the top for turning. Clip corners and curves. Turn. Press with a cloth on top with low heat, rolling top edge in.
Stitch the opening closed if it bothers you, but it really isn’t necessary.
Hand-stitch a long, running stitch down the center.
Pull the thread to gather. Knot the thread.
Attach to the bag by sewing on a button through bat and cuff. Attach googly eyes to the button with hot glue.
I think he’d be adorable on top of a headband. I mean, scary. Super-scary.
